National Chi-Nan University

Graduate Student, Department of Comparative Education

About

I am currently registered as a researcher and doctoral student with the Department of Comparative Education at National Chi-Nan University in Taiwan. My research project is Cosmopolitanism and Pedagogy, which I see as the cultivation of my participation in the University of Illinois’ Global Studies in Education program. My specific focus is analysis of the streams of globalization that are breathing life into the discourse on Cosmopolitanism as a workable philosophy for schools, such as Global English and Citizenship Education in the 21st Century. I will compare educational practices worldwide in order to demonstrate, not only the various compounds of cosmopolitanism as ontology, but also its relationship to other discourses such as nationalism and pluralism. I am particularly interesting in pursuing research into the nature of trans-cultural dialogue and how this can be taught in schools. I am indebted to all of my professors in the GSE program whose expertise within the areas of globalization, internationalization of education, identity, and multiculturalism has been instrumental in igniting my desire for an improved world view in the classroom and to extend it beyond the classroom for the completion of the cosmopolitan project.
